Barcelona have won their third UEFA Champions League title in four years with a 2-0 victory over old foes Lyon in Bilbao.

La Blaugrana lost out to the French giants in 2022, as they missed the chance to defend their trophy, but 2024 has offered redemption.

Another European title makes it a trophy quadruple for Barcelona this season to set a new benchmark in women’s domestic football.

Despite the final result, Barcelona struggled for fluency early on, as Lyon kept them at bay in the first half, at the Estadio San Mames.

However, Spain star Aitana Bonmati turned the tide just after the hour mark, as her deflected near post finish finally broke the deadlock.

Bonmati’s 19th goal of the season matches her previous season best tally from 2023, and her second Champions League final goal.

As the game became stretched in the closing stages, Barcelona looked to dig in, before substitute Alexia Putellas crashed home a brilliant second.

Putellas has now matched Bonmati’s record of two finals goals as Barcelona provided the perfect send off to outgoing head coach Jonatan Giraldez.
