This past summer, Paris Saint-Germain said goodbye to Marco Verratti, a crucial player in their midfield, when he left for Qatari club Al-Arabi. Now, after a season in Qatar, the experienced player might be considering a comeback to Europe.

After one year away from European football, the Italian midfielder could be returning, this time playing in La Liga. A recent report reveals that Barcelona are interested in signing Verratti after the midfielder has spent one season in Qatari football.

The Catalan side landing the player will probably depend on the asking price that Al-Arabi wants for the player. Nonetheless, there’s new information on this rumor.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Verratti would have been offered to FC Barcelona. The Spanish media outlet mentions that the former PSG star will likely need to accept a notable salary cut, especially considering that while the Barcelona staff may appreciate his profile, doubts are lingering about his competitiveness following his time in Qatar this year.

CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Johnson believes that Verratti heading to the Catalan side has come and gone.

“I think the moment for Verratti and Barcelona has come and gone,” Johnson told PSG Talk. “Honestly, I don’t see what he would really bring that they don’t already have these days.”
