Lionel Messi visited the Camp Nou on Monday and generated headlines for multiple speculations that were made around his future and Barcelona.
The Inter Miami star, in any case, recently extended his contract with the MLS franchise until the end of the 2028 season.
There are no indications that Messi, 38, is going to breach in some way that agreement, given that the Argentine is key to The Herons' strategy surrounding the inauguration of the Miami Freedom Park in 2026.
That said, Barcelona made an important announcement on Thursday about Messi.
The president of Barca, Joan Laporta, has announced that they are working for Leo Messi to have a statue in the new Spotify Camp Nou.
"Messi will be linked to Barca, he knows the doors are open to him. We have absolute respect, he deserves the best tribute," said Laporta.
"He should have a statue in the Spotify Camp Nou, like Cruyff and Kubala. He is one of those reference players who have marked us. We have discussed it in a board meeting and we are working on it," he assured.
"The family must agree and all the culés would want it. When the time comes and we have the design of this statue, we would propose it. We would like it very much, as culés. I believe all of Barcelona's supporters would love the fact of having a statue of Leo Messi there where the great figures of Barça's history are," he added.
This occurred within the framework of the presentation of the book 'Jo vaig viure a la Masia' (I lived in La Masia), by journalist Xavi Torres.
This announcement coincides with the visit that Messi made to the Camp Nou at night and without previously notifying the blaugrana club. In an Instagram post, the Argentine acknowledged that he would love to return to Barcelona and not only to receive a tribute.
The blaugrana president spoke about how his relations with Messi are. "It is a correct relationship, here we love him, this is his home and he knows it. We have always said it, it is only right that he has the most beautiful tribute in the world, I believe it will be wonderful".
