Manchester United will have to make important decisions in the summer that could shape next season.

With changes expected throughout the squad, attention has turned to those not at the club.

There is a feeling that this window could define the next chapter of United’s rebuild under Ineos.

One situation has now taken an unexpected turn.

Marcus Rashford finds himself at a crossroads after Barcelona failed to act on a crucial clause that would have secured his long-term future away from Old Trafford.

The England international, who has spent the season on loan at the Camp Nou, had a £26 million option to buy included in his deal, but the deadline passed on March 31 without any move from the Spanish club, as reported by Què t’hi Jugues! as relayed by Cadena SER.

Despite confirmation from sporting director Deco that the clause existed, Barcelona allowed the opportunity to lapse, reportedly due to ongoing financial constraints.

The Englishman now faces the possibility of returning to Manchester United once the season concludes.

There remains interest from Barcelona in keeping him beyond this season, but only in the form of another loan, an option United are not willing to entertain.

The club prefers a permanent sale and has no intention of lowering their valuation to accommodate another temporary arrangement.

Rashford’s time in Spain has helped rebuild parts of his reputation, with the 28-year-old showing flashes of attacking quality that once made him one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards.

This season, he has contributed 23 goals and assists across all competitions.

Those numbers have kept him relevant in the market.

As things stand, the door to Spain has not fully closed, but it is no longer in Barcelona’s control, and that shift could prove decisive in the weeks ahead.
