Frenkie de Jong’s future as a Barcelona player is far from assured. He has been regularly linked with a move away over the last few months, and now, it does appear to be more of a reality than he could be moved on.

According to Sport, Barcelona have offered de Jong a new contract, but so far, that has gone unanswered. If he continues to take this stance, then it’s more than likely that he will be transfer-listed ahead of the summer transfer window.

Barcelona understand that de Jong has a very good market value, and considering that his current deal expires in 2026, his valuation will only decrease if he continues to not sign an extension. Sales are needed because of their financial woes, and the Dutch midfielder could end up being the perfect candidate.

De Jong won’t be short of suitors if Barcelona do decide to sell him, with Bayern Munich and clubs in the Premier League showing interest. However, the player himself doesn’t seem particularly interested in a move away at this stage, which will certainly complicate matters.
