Barcelona push for summer move to sign attacker Liverpool want €80m for – Report

It’s been a while since Liverpool have been crowned Premier League champions and ever since, there hasn’t been much to look forward to this season. Arne Slot’s men have resembled a car on cruise control, going through the paces without much effort.

It doesn’t matter if they win or lose games as their position in the Premier League table is not going to change. However, the Reds have an upcoming summer transfer window to look forward to and they need to reinforce well.

For a few seasons now, Liverpool have largely been spectators during the summer transfer windows with no major signings of note, but they cannot afford to do the same this summer as Arne Slot looks to take his project to the next level.

Barcelona want Luis Diaz

Liverpool also need to decide on which players in the current squad that they would be willing to sell. Now, as per Relevo via Fichajes, La Liga champions Barcelona are pushing to sign Luis Diaz to reinforce the left-wing position in their squad.

The Colombian winger has been ever-present in Arne Slot’s team this season but his performances have been a mixed bag. Diaz started the season very well but went off the boil through the middle phase of the campaign before picking it up again in recent weeks.

Liverpool are said to be asking for a fee of around €80m to sell Diaz to Barcelona but it is highly unlikely for the Catalan club to fork out that kind of offer. Their financial issues are well documented and they are not likely to spend so much money on an inconsistent player.

Do Liverpool need a new left-winger?

There is a school of thought in Merseyside that Liverpool might actually be doing well if they manage to move on Diaz this summer and bring in a player who is able to provide an electric ability on the left wing.

For all his strengths, the Colombian is not a natural one-on-one winger and Arne Slot’s team could benefit from having a Nico Williams-esque winger in their ranks. Should the club think along similar lines, don’t be surprised to see them lower Diaz’s asking price.

It remains to be seen if Barcelona negotiate with the Reds for Luis Diaz this summer and just how low Liverpool are willing to go. It is a story to keep an eye out on for the upcoming transfer window and only time will reveal how the cookie crumbles.
