Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has a big summer ahead of him, as he looks to help bring a home Euros to Germany, and decides whether he will continue there next season. With his deal expiring in 2025, Bayern and Kimmich are to enter talks imminently.

The Bavarian giants will try to extend his deal, but if they cannot, will consider a sale this summer. Kimmich is attracted by the idea of moving abroad, but will listen to Bayern’s proposal first. Amongst the obstacles to the 29-year-old’s continuity are his relationship with Thomas Tuchel, whose continuity is no longer ruled out at Bayern, and the use of him at right-back.

As per BILD (via Sport), Bayern and Kimmich want to work out his future one way or another by the start of the Euros, exactly a month down the line, allowing Kimmich to focus on the tournament. From that point on, Barcelona will know whether they can make a move for him.

Kimmich is reportedly a big fan of Xavi Hernandez, and vice versa, with the two having held talks in the past. Yet there is a fear that he is not the defensive presence in the middle of the pitch that Barcelona have been keen to find this summer, even if his quality is beyond doubt. Equally, he would be another ageing player with no resale value for the Blaugrana, who are in a delicate financial situation.
