There is a clear need for Tottenham to bring in attackers in the summer. The Lilywhites struggled to find consistency going forward and many key players endured a rough campaign due to their bad form. Yet, Ange Postecoglou’s men contributed in bits and pieces and went on to win the Europa League against all odds to end the season on a high.
But the poor Premier League campaign will definitely put a stain on the European success that the North London club endured. The Lilywhites finished the season just a place above the relegation zone and registered 22 losses along the way. Due to the disastrous domestic campaign, Spurs will also need to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy heading into the summer transfer window.
It is clear to see that the club needs to bring in a new player that could share the creative burden with James Maddison for next season. The Spurs No.10 is arguably the only player in the squad that can create chances at will and be productive in the final third of the pitch consistently. However, lack of good creative attackers has costed the Lilywhites some crucial results and there is an urgent need to fill that void.
It is not a surprise that Tottenham are looking to sign a new player in the summer that could bolster their attack for next season. It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as soon as the transfer window opened. The aforementioned report had also suggested that Eze has a £68m (plus £8m add-ons) release clause in his contract that the Lilywhites were aiming to activate in the summer.
But now, the North London club have suffered a major blow in their efforts to land the 26-year-old. As per the Daily Mirror (via Football.london), Bayern Munich are also interested in signing the England international after they missed out on signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The report also suggests that Bayern have a great relationship with the Eagles following last year’s sale of Michael Olise to the Bundesliga giants.
The Spurs fans will not blame Eze for choosing Bayern over Spurs due to the strong European pedigree the German club holds. However, the Lilywhites can still convince the Palace star to head for N17 by guaranteeing him a place in the starting eleven and being the heir to Heung-Min Son on the left-flank.
Tottenham have kept replacements ready if they fail to land Eze in the summer. It was reported earlier that Spurs are also interested in landing RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons in the summer and view the Dutchman as the ideal player to fit into Ange Postecoglou’s system next season. Fans will hope that a deal can go through quickly if the North London club miss out on Eberechi Eze in the coming weeks.
