Bayern Munich wastes no time when it comes to the longevity and success of its club. The German giants are known for dominating in the domestic Bundesliga, competing in the Champions League for international trophies, and securing high-level players to join their team. But a lackluster season this year means that the Bayern squad didn’t earn any trophies—which is very unlike them.

Part could be due to player pressure, tactical decisions, technical ability, or scheduling, but part could be due to the coaching staff and organization. That is where Bayern realized they needed to make a change. Tuchel, the infamous German coach who has also been in charge of the Blues in the Premier League, was quickly sacked after the season ended.

But who could replace him?

Bayern Munich Secure New Manager for 2024

You may have heard his name before, but you wouldn’t have thought he would make the switch to come coach in the Bundesliga. Vincent Kompany, an ex-Manchester City legend, captain, and Dutch coach, has signed a three-year deal with Bayern Munich to step in as the new gaffer for the German squad.

Kompany is currently the manager at Burnley in the Premier League, a post that nobody saw him leaving any time soon. Kompany retired a few years ago from his long-time stint in the EPL and went back to the Netherlands to try and help his boyhood club, Anderlecht. After being a player-coach and transitioning to a manager, he moved up quickly in the ranks to coach in England.

Now, he has his sights set on making an impact in the Bundesliga.

Despite being young and maybe underqualified for such a huge role, his demeanor, coaching style, and respectful attitude brings in the mutual respect of the squad and the board at his current club.

What happens to Kompany’s coaching staff at Burnley and former staff at Anderlecht? Well, they might be left behind. Kompany is moving to Bayern Munich, but his second-in-command, Bellamy, will not follow him. This brings into question what Burnley will do for a head coach moving into the 2024-2025 Premier League year.

Bayern Munich Looking Forward

Next year, Bayern Munich have a hill to climb. This season, they ended in third place, which is fair for all things considered – but for a club with the stature of Bayern, this is a poor finish from the organization. They lost out on first or second place to Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart, two teams who almost always finish lower than Bayern on the table.

Bayern Munich ended the year with 72 points, just one point away from securing second place. However, they were far off the dominant performance of Bayer Leverkusen, who ended the season with a whopping 90 points. Bayern Munich suffered toward the end of the season, losing key games to Hoffenheim 4-2, Stuttgart 3-1, Dortmund 2-0, and Heidenheim 3-2.

Bayern Munich also needed to focus on the UEFA Champions League competition against Arsenal, where they narrowly edged out the EPL side 3-2 on aggregate. In the semi-final leg, they lost to Real Madrid 3-4 on aggregate after a surprise come back from the Spanish side.

Hopefully, with Kompany at the helm, Bayern Munich can get back to winning ways.
