Bayern Munich seem to be stepping back from their interest in Yan Diomande, mainly because of the €100m asking price.
Liverpool have been linked with Diomande for a while now, and the midfielder has made no secret of his desire to play at Anfield one day.
But there’s plenty of competition for his signature. The player – who can operate as a central midfielder or right-winger – is already valued at around £87m. Manchester City and Real Madrid are among the clubs said to be monitoring him.
Christian Falk has suggested that Bayern can’t justify the cost while Luis Diaz is still on their books, explaining the situation on his YouTube channel: “So it’s true that he [Diomande] will cost a lot of money.”
“The €100m price-tag target was made by Oliver Mintzlaff. We saw him at Bayern Munich playing in the cup for Leipzig and he’s good. He’s really good, but he has to develop. €100m will be too much for this summer.
“It’s a price Premier League clubs can play, City, Liverpool and United. I think they can afford him, but Bayern can’t afford him at this point because Luis Diaz is the man on the left wing. Bayern Munich don’t need a 1A, they need a 1B, and €100m for a 1B is too much for Bayern Munich.”
Whether it’s Diomande or another name, reports this week suggest Liverpool are in the market for a winger.
That comes amid growing questions about Mohamed Salah’s future, following his post-Leeds outburst and continued links to the Saudi Pro League.
Federico Chiesa has rarely featured in Arne Slot’s Premier League line-ups. On the other side, pace is lacking, with Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz currently the main options.
Gakpo hasn’t won over many fans this season, while Wirtz seems more likely to settle into a number 10 role behind either Hugo Ekitike or Alexander Isak down the line.
Outside of Diomande, there haven’t been strong links to other wide players yet, but there’s still time before the summer window opens for that to change.
And financially, FSG should still have room to spend in the next window even without Champions League football in hand.
