BBC: The two managers who are keen on taking the vacant Chelsea position

There are now two managers who are keen to take the vacant managerial position at Chelsea this summer, according to a report from The BBC this afternoon.

The reports have been coming in thick and fast in this last week and everyone is having their say on it and all outlets are putting out what they know.

The general consensus from the last 24 hours is that there are two, and in some cases, three common names mentioned that could take the role as new Chelsea boss. Those are Roberto De Zerbi, Enzo Maresca, and Thomas Frank of Brighton, Leicester City, and Brentford respectively.

The report from The BBC confirms those are the three names shortlisted by Chelsea as the final options that they will decide between, and they also say that both De Zerbi and Maresca are ‘keen’ on the Chelsea job.

However, there is also confirmation in there that Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is no longer in contention to become Chelsea’s next manager.

The report also says that ‘less is known’ about the nature of talks with Frank. Chelsea hope to appoint a manager in the next week but it will be subject to talks around a compensation fee for the new manager’s current club.

Choice of three?

I still reckon we might see another random wildcard name come from nowhere and maybe there are more twists and turns in this story as it seems to me Chelsea have tried to keep things under wraps as much as possible.

But if it is a choice of this alleged final three, then it’s a very underwhelming end list of options and not inspiring at all. You’d expect Chelsea to be going for one of the best in the business, and I don’t call any of these three that – at least not yet.
