Tottenham ended the transfer window with a bang by bringing in Randal Kolo Muani from PSG on deadline day. The France international has joined the Lilywhites on a season-long loan, with the North London club not having an obligation to make the deal permanent. Fans will be pleased to see the club showed some form of intent in the market and bolstered the attack before the window shut.
As of now, the 26-year-old has not yet managed to start a game for Spurs under Thomas Frank. He is still not 100% fit and that was clear to see when he came on as a second-half substitute against Villarreal in the Champions League. The prolific striker was looking sluggish and hesitated to make forward runs during his cameo for the North London club.
However, fans are still expecting Kolo Muani to hit the ground running at N17 following his switch from PSG. The Frenchman is known for his goal-scoring pedigree, as well as, his ability to get in the right place at the right time during crucial moments. The 26-year-old’s versatility is also a massive boost for Spurs as Thomas Frank will have the option of utilising him either as a #9, or on the left-flank.
As of now, Richarlison is keeping both Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke out of the starting eleven under Thomas Frank. The Brazilian’s impressive start to the new season has certainly made him a first-choice pick for the #9 position. This might be frustrating for Kolo Muani, as the Frenchman is looking to play regularly at N17 and show his worth in the Premier League.
But Ian Darke believes that the PSG loanee’s experience in the Champions League will give him the edge over Richarlison as the season progresses. Speaking to Tottenham News, Darke said,
“I think at the moment, Richarlison’s the player in possession. He started the season well and is full of it and loves playing for Frank. So it’s his position. Kolo Muani is going to be knocking at the door because he’s quite a quality player, but he’s been quite frustrated at PSG being a substitute there for the moment.”
The iconic commentator added,
“He might have to just be a little bit patient, being a substitute with Tottenham, although his Champions League experience might make him quite a contender for games in that competition.”
Ian Darke admits that Richarlison is currently the first-choice striker for Tottenham under Thomas Frank. The iconic commentator believes that Kolo Muani will surely look to knock the doors to feature in the starting eleven as he aims to get regular gametime at N17. However, Darke urges the Frenchman to be ‘patient’, as his experience in the Champions League will give him the edge over Richarlison sooner or later.
Bringing Randal Kolo Muani to N17 is essentially a risk-free option as Spurs do not have an obligation to sign him permanently. However, the Lilywhites will hope that the player does perform well and help the club build on their Europa League success this season. His immense quality and experience of playing on the biggest stages will certainly give Thomas Frank a different dynamic while selecting the forward line.
