David Beckham backs Ruben Amorim and believes that reestablishing stability at Manchester United will help them improve on the field. The legendary Red Devils winger highlighted his success at the club as the key example of having a stable environment.
Man United will play Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday to salvage something from a dreadful season. The Red Devils fanbase endured a miserable campaign, witnessing their struggling team lose 18 Premier League games from 37 matches.
United are currently 16th in the Premier League table, but their Wednesday opponent are also not faring well this season. Spurs are 17th in the Premier League table, having lost 21 matches from 37 games in their campaign so far.
Speaking to The Athletic, Beckham highlighted the importance of stability at the club, something Man United are lacking under Amorim. He said:
“It has not been a great season, and I think that’s being kind. When there hasn’t been stability at the club, it shows. We were lucky to be part of the most stable club with the same manager, owner, fans and players there for many years. We know when you have stability within the club, you have success. Simple as that. I believe that we have a very good manager now. I believe that we have a lot of people who are trying to bring stability around the club. What our fans care about most, though, is what happens on the field and what is happening on the field, people are not liking — our fans are not liking.”
The Man United legend further highlighted the success of Amorim at his former club before he joined the Red Devils. He added:
“He’s a young manager with success already under his belt (at Sporting CP) and great experience for his age. So I think he will make the changes that he needs to make.”
Amorim won three Liga Portugal titles during his tenure at Sporting CP, enjoying consistent success after building stability. Sporting CP are now one of the top clubs in Portugal, alongside well-established giants like FC Porto and S.L. Benfica.
However, managing Man United is a far difficult task with the highest scrutiny in the world of football. While United fans have maintained their patience with Amorim, despite this season’s disaster, he needs to show some improvement early next season.
The summer window will play a big role, and the Europa League triumph could shift the momentum in their favour. Winning the Europa League will help Man United qualify for the next season’s Champions League, which provides a financial boost. United are facing financial scrutiny and need to raise funds by selling their surplus before they can back Amorim.
