River Plate wonderkid Franco Mastantuono is on the radar of several top European clubs. FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid are among the teams vying for the player. However, a new team have emerged to battle for the Argentine.

At just 16 years old, he stands out as one of South America’s most promising young talents. Recently, he inked a fresh deal with the Buenos Aires team, securing his stay until 2026. Moreover, his release clause, initially set at €15 million, has now surged to €45 million.

SL Benfica are stepping up its pursuit of Mastantuono, with reports from O Jogo (h/t Diario AS) suggesting that the Portuguese side has already initiated contact with River.

The Lisbon club are eager to secure his services, but they are well aware of the complexities involved in such a high-profile signing, adding a layer of suspense to the situation.

Real Madrid is very aware of his evolution, like every young player who comes out in South America. It is expected that throughout the next transfer market, Mastantuono will choose a destination.

Nonetheless, a recent report does reveal that the Spanish giants might be having second thoughts about remaining in this race considering the release clause might be too much that they’re willing to pay.
