Benjamin Sesko granted permission to leave Manchester

Benjamin Sesko arrived at Manchester United carrying the promise of becoming the focal point of their attack for years to come, but his journey has rarely been allowed to flow uninterrupted.

Signed from RB Leipzig in August 2025, the towering Slovenian needed time to adjust before finding his rhythm.

He eventually scored 11 Premier League goals in 30 appearances as United finished third, including a memorable strike against Liverpool in May.

That afternoon also brought consequences.

A collision with the advertising boards aggravated a shin problem which subsequently disrupted his summer and wiped out most of his pre-season.

United carefully eased Sesko back into Michael Carrick’s side this term.

He responded with goals against Everton and Sabah FK, briefly appearing to have turned the page before the problem returned following the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton.

CentreDevils reported that Slovenia manager Bostjan Cesar described it as an atypical injury requiring time to heal.

Sesko subsequently missed the draw with Fulham, where Matheus Cunha led the attack, while Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have both offered Carrick alternatives through the middle during his absences.

Now, United have sanctioned Sesko’s departure from Manchester.

According to journalist Sam Cohen on X, Sesko flew by private jet to Slovenia on Friday after receiving permission from Manchester United to make the trip.

However, there is no suggestion of a transfer or change to his United future.

The 23-year-old reportedly requested permission solely so he could visit his international teammates and wish them luck ahead of their upcoming Nations League fixtures.

Sesko had already withdrawn from the squad because of his injury and therefore will not feature during the international break.

The striker is expected back in Manchester shortly, where he will continue his rehabilitation as United attempt to finally put the troublesome shin issue behind him.
