Arsenal’s appeal against Max Dowman’s red card in the League Cup match against Fleetwood Town has been rejected, leaving the teenager facing a three-game suspension. The decision is a setback for the Gunners, who had hoped to have him available during a period when injuries have reduced Mikel Arteta’s options.

Dowman was sent off after reacting to a poor tackle during a frustrating evening for Arsenal. The dismissal added to the disappointment of a match that ended in defeat on penalties, making it a difficult night for the young attacker.

The timing is particularly unfortunate. Bukayo Saka’s injury had created an opportunity for Dowman to earn more first-team chances, but the suspension will prevent him from taking advantage of that opening over the next three league fixtures.

Arsenal lose another option during injury problems

According to ESPN, Arsenal’s appeal against the red card has been turned down, meaning Dowman will serve a three-match ban. The club had challenged the decision in the hope of making him available, but their efforts have proved unsuccessful.

Mikel Arteta was furious after Dowman was sent off, and the rejection will be another frustration for the manager. Arsenal are already dealing with injuries to several key players, leaving Arteta with fewer options during a demanding period of the season.

Although the Gunners have considerable quality in their squad, the number of absentees has increased the importance of having emerging players available. Dowman has been developing into a reliable option, and his absence further limits the manager’s choices.

Liverpool fixture adds to Arsenal’s frustration

Arsenal face Liverpool this weekend, a challenging fixture in which Dowman could have contributed. His potential availability was one of the reasons the club appealed the sending-off, as Arteta would have welcomed another attacking option for the match.

Instead, the teenager will have to watch from the sidelines while serving his suspension. Arsenal must now manage their injury problems without him, while Dowman waits for his chance to return and compete for a place in Arteta’s team.
