Bradford City are currently in the middle of their first season in League One since the 2018/19 campaign following their promotion from League Two last season.
The Bantams, who were promoted following a last minute winner, have arguably been successful so far this campaign with the outfit sitting third in League One currently.
Meanwhile, City have also won big games against West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town and league leaders Cardiff City, building fan optimism of a potential back-to-back promotions.
With promotion in mind, the Bantams have been using the January transfer window to strengthen their squad in key areas.
One of these areas is midfield, with City signing Louie Sibley from Oxford United on a loan basis whilst also signing Joe White from Newcastle United on loan too.
However, the outfit have not recruited in the striker position and, following the departure of Andy Cook (who is the club’s fourth highest ever goal-scorer), Bradford arguably need to sign a replacement.
Now, the Bantams have done so with the the signing of Manchester United forward Ethan Wheatley on a loan basis, as confirmed on Bradford City’s official website.
Ethan Wheatley had been on loan at League One outfit Northampton Town for the first half of the season but was recalled from the spell.
With the announcement made, after CentreDevils revealing that it was United’s intention to explore alternative options, he will spend the second half of the season with Bradford as City go on another promotion charge.
Wheatley said: “I am buzzing. We have been in discussions for quite a while, and I am excited to get the deal done and hopefully help the lads for the rest of the season.
“I hope I can add to the side after the strong start they have made and score goals.
“The last couple of months at Northampton, I grew as a player, and I want to continue doing that here.”
Bantams boss Graham Alexander added: “We are delighted to bring Ethan in to bolster our attacking options.
“He has fantastic attributes for a forward player, with plenty of League One games under his belt this season already.
“He showed a great desire to join us when we spoke, and I believe he is going to enjoy his time with us.”
Whilst with the Bantams, the striker will play alongside experienced attacking players such as Antoni Sarcevic and Stephen Humphrys.
Therefore, a move to the West Yorkshire outfit can be considered to be the right move to both challenge Ethan Wheatley more and to aid him in his professional development.
