Breaking news is coming out this afternoon suggesting that Chelsea have picked their number one target for their new manager, a manager who is now ‘very likely’ to join the club as head coach this week.

It’s been a crazy week really in the world of Chelsea after they parted ways with head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Since then, the rumours and noise has been coming out from every angle and plenty of names have been reported.

But according to The Telegraph, it is Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca who has now emerged as the club’s number one target to take the reigns at Chelsea.

As you can see from his post on X below, Telegraph journalist John Percy says Maresca is now Chelsea’s number one target as new head coach. Chelsea have asked official permission to speak to him and he believes it is now very likely to happen this week.

Would you be happy with Enzo Maresca?

I can see Chelsea fans being very annoyed, frustrated, and disappointed with what would be an underwhelming appointment for the club, a club who is used to high profile and proven managers who have a background of success at the very top already.

Maresca has zero experience coaching in the Premier League and very little experience as a head coach regardless. He certainly has some positives and looks to be a good up and coming manager, but what a huge risk this would be for Chelsea to hire such an unproven manager. Blues fans will be there ready and waiting with their pitchforks if this goes wrong. There’s certainly a lot to be said for taking a risk on a manager who you feel can be the next biggest thing, but when you have hired and fired so many managers already during your short two year reign as owners at the club, it just makes it such a massive risk.
