Brighton will offer another bid below £40m for Chelsea player who isn’t leaving

Brighton made everyone laugh and roll their eyes when they bid £30m for Levi Colwill last week.

Now Fabrizio Romano is reporting that they are preparing to make an almost equally derisory bid for the defender, this time “close to [i.e. below] £40m.” Romano adds that Chelsea still consider him a key part of their plans for next season.

They just don’t seem to get the picture. Levi isn’t going anywhere unless they offer twice that. So they should start looking elsewhere. Given we gave them a truck load of money for their manager and their left back last summer, and are interested in paying another truck load for Moises Caicedo this summer, they should be looking to keep us happy, not irritate us with these time wasting offers far below Colwill’s market value.

What is concerning is how these low ball bids keep coming even though they’re clearly not going to be accepted. It feels suspiciously like the Seagulls are getting some encouragement from somewhere that it’s worth trying – let’s hope that is not coming from Colwill’s camp after his recent mixed messages about his desire to stay put at Chelsea.

If Chelsea had told them flatly after their first bid that he was not for sale, why would they be trying again now, a week later? The only thing worse than the Seagulls getting encouragement from Colwill’s camp would be them getting encouragement from a soft Chelsea line on his future.
