Bruce Dyer joins Manchester United

Manchester United are continuing to make waves across the football world as they reinforce their position as one of England’s biggest clubs.

The Red Devils, locking horns with local rivals Manchester City today, strengthened in the summer transfer window, primarily in midfield.

Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba all arrived at the club during the window, putting pen to paper on permanent deals, as United aim to improve their chances of winning the Premier League this season.

Focus is already on upcoming transfer windows, however, with Marc Bernal attracting new interest from the club whilst Pierre Kalulu has landed at the top of Manchester United’s shortlist.

Whilst making signings is often seen as a good way of improving squads, there is a lot that goes into the process of choosing and signing players, both at senior level and youth level. That starts at scouting.

Now, SunSport have revealed that Bruce Dyer is employed by Manchester United as a scout.

The outlet, reporting on their website, have said that he works as a regional scout for the club, identifying players for the side’s academy, whilst coaching his approach to football in schools.

Speaking to the publication, Dyer said: “When I am working with youngsters in academies and schools I would like to think that I am the absolute example of what any kid can achieve.

“I was just a lad from East London with this dream of playing football.

“It does seem crazy that it’s over three decades since Palace signed me for £1million when I was 18 after I had only made my senior debut for Watford a year earlier.

“I look back to that time and I seriously have to pinch myself.

“It was a crazy, whirlwind period of my life.

“I joined Watford’s youth system at 15, was recommended by the club’s kit manager, Ken Brooks, and made my debut for the Hornets when I was 17.”

Dyer made history in his playing career, becoming the first ever teenager to be sold for £1 million when Crystal Palace paid the seven-figure fee to Watford for the then 18-year-old.

At 32, the former Palace star’s engagement in scouting for United plays a crucial part in helping the club identify players who could succeed in the club’s academy set-up.

Many stars have come through Manchester United’s system, including Sir David Beckham, George Best, Marcus Rashford, and Kobbie Mainoo. Now, Bruce Dyer is playing the crucial role in helping find the next memorable player, a role that could bring the world’s best directly inside United’s ranks.
