The 2026 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching, with next summer’s tournament in the United States of America, Mexico and Canada the biggest in history based on entrant size.

A record high 48 teams will take part in the summer, with 42 having qualified so far, including England and Scotland, who could be followed by both other home nations.

Northern Ireland and Wales will all be made to wait until March for their fate to be sealed by the playoff rounds.

There is even the possibility of an all-British playoff final with the winners of Wales against Bosnia set to host the winners of Northern Ireland and Italy.

However, one of the qualified teams are Portugal, who feature several United players in Diogo Dalot and captain Bruno Fernandes, as well as former forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

With former player Nani also representing the Portuguese national team in the past, the country have always gathered a keen interest from United fans during major tournaments.

As such, there is no doubt that United fans would have noticed the latest World Cup social media poster.

SportsBible has reported that FIFA have reuploaded an image of their World Cup poster on Instagram, with one major difference.

Initially the poster showed the faces of stars from every qualified country so far.

However, this was quickly deleted due to the backlash they received for not including Ronaldo in the picture as Portugal’s star player.

In response to the backlash, a new graphic was posted by FIFA, with Ronaldo now featured in the post.

Unfortunately though a casualty of the situation was United’s Fernandes, who was nowhere to be seen in the new poster.

Interestingly, unlike the original poster, the new version featured Lionel Messi holding the trophy, very near Ronaldo.

Already speculation has arisen about if this could be Ronaldo’s last World Cup, which the man himself has admitted is very likely.
