Manchester United’s January window has so far been defined more by background developments than activity in the market, with attention split between the team’s resurgence on the pitch and uncertainty surrounding the futures of several figures.

Under recently appointed interim manager Michael Carrick, United have found momentum again, climbing back into the UEFA Champions League spots after impressive wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.

Yet away from matchdays, questions continue to surface about the long-term direction of the squad – particularly when it comes to its most influential players with Casemiro already announcing that he will leave the club this summer.

Another one of those situations now centres on the club’s captain.

According to Rodra of ESPN, speaking on Inaki Angulo TV, Bruno Fernandes offered his services to Real Madrid and made himself available for a potential move.

However, the Spanish giants are understood to have rejected the proposal outright, showing no interest in pursuing a deal during the winter transfer window.

Fernandes has remained a central figure at Old Trafford since joining the club in 2020, consistently carrying responsibility both creatively and as a leader during periods of turbulence.

His influence has been particularly evident since Carrick’s appointment, with the Portuguese midfielder assisting in both of the new interim manager’s first two games.

Real Madrid’s stance appears to reflect with their current squad planning than a judgement on Bruno Fernandes’ quality.

With Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Arda Guler already forming the backbone of their midfield, the club are understood to be prioritising continuity and long-term succession over short-term additions.

For the Red Devils, the situation is unlikely to prompt immediate concern.

Fernandes remains under contract and continues to be a cornerstone of Carrick’s side as they push for Champions League qualification in the second half of the season.

Still, the revelation underlines how uncertainty continues to surround even United’s most established figures, with the summer window expected to bring renewed scrutiny over the club’s leadership, recruitment strategy and long-term vision.
