Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha in a deal believed to be worth around £60 million .
The former Wolves striker becomes the first major addition under new boss Ruben Amorim, as United look to reshape their attack after a disappointing season.
Matheus Cunha enjoyed a standout season with Wolves, netting 15 goals in 33 league appearances. Finishing level on points but a position below Manchester United, this move still seems like a big step in his career development.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes wasted no time in welcoming Matheus Cunha to the Reds.
Shortly after the announcement of the Wolves star’s arrival, Fernandes posted a video to his Instagram story saying ‘Welcome to Old Trafford @Cunha’.
The post signals early support from the dressing room for Cunha, who will be expected to play a key role in United’s new-look attack under Ruben Amorim.
Fernandes has often played a pivotal role in integrating new signings, and his public backing of Cunha sets a positive tone ahead of pre-season. But it remains unclear whether Bruno will be at United next season to play alongside Cunha.
According to the Daily Mail, Fernandes’ agent has held discussions with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal over a potential summer move. The club is said to be keen on bringing the Portuguese midfielder to Riyadh as part of their ongoing push to attract top European talent.
The Reds captain, 30, has a contract extension with the club that lasts until 2027 and Manchester United are waiting for Fernandes to make a decision on the £100m move.
With Manchester United open to a squad overhaul under Ruben Amorim and Saudi clubs willing to spend big, Fernandes could become the latest Premier League star to head to the Gulf.
