Bruno Fernandes wins Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for third time
Yukihito Taguchi-USA TODAY Sports

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has faced a lot of criticism this season, but that has not stopped him from winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

Fernandes finished the season strongly, earning some deserved plaudits, but throughout the season he battled through knocks and niggles to make himself available as a major influence for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Our no.8, who has been linked with a summer move away from Old Trafford, has twice been named Player of the Month this season (August & April).

Fans took to ManUtd.com to vote for this year’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, with Fernandes picking up 40% of the vote. The closest challenger was fellow countryman, Diogo Dalot, who was United’s most improved player by some distance. The next two in the voting were Kobbie Mainoo in third and Alejandro Garnacho in fourth.

It’s the third time Fernandes was won the prestigious award.

Nobody will say it was Fernandes’ best campaign for United, but he could still end it on a high by winning a major trophy on Saturday. The Portugal international, who has Euro 2024 to look forward to this summer, was United’s joint-top scorer in the Premier League for United.

Fernandes will lead the Reds out at Wembley to take on rivals Man City in the FA Cup final. He will be looking to add to his tally of 15 goals across all competitions this season as he’s currently one behind Rasmus Hojlund on 16.
