Bruno Guimaraes has shined for Newcastle United this summer as Eddie Howe’s side pursue success in multiple competitions including the Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup.
The midfielder, who has been with Newcastle for nearly four years, has made 189 appearances and has scored 31 times.
Guimaraes has also created 38 chances in the Premier League this season whilst having 13 successful dribbles in the same competition.
These figures, which demonstrate the midfielder’s clear value, can be said to contribute to Manchester United’s interest in the 28-year-old.
Eddie Howe shut down rumours of a move to Manchester United in the media earlier this week, although Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a meeting has taken place between the player’s agent and Manchester United.
His absence today, against Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby, has further fuelled speculation and has led to questions from the media and supporters.
Bruno Guimaraes has now responded to these questions on his Instagram story with him stating: “The only reason I’m not at the stadium in Newcastle is that after our flight back from Barcelona, I noticed my face was swollen and thought I was having an allergic reaction.
“But the next day when I woke up, I realized that it was so much more than that.
“I sent a photo to the doctor and he came to examine me. It was confirmed that I have mumps, and I need to stay in isolation for five days and stay away from physical activities for a bit longer.
“My focus now is to recover and be 100% as soon as possible.”
It is clear from this statement that the midfielder was not present due to a medical condition, and that it was not down to ongoing transfer speculation.
Whilst providing clarity for football supporters, it also gives Newcastle United supporters assurance.
