Bruno Fernandes is known for his competitive edge at Manchester United, but according to Bryan Mbeumo, there is someone in the squad who brings even more intensity during training.
It has now been six years since Bruno made the move from Sporting CP to Manchester United.
Since then, the Portuguese midfielder has become a key figure at Old Trafford, picking up four Player of the Year awards along the way.
This season he will likely be in the mix again for that honour, although Mbeumo – currently leading United’s scoring charts – could provide some serious competition.
During his time at United, where he has helped lift both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, Fernandes has often been relied upon to help steady things when needed.
His leadership extends beyond just goals and assists. Fernandes is also not shy about stepping in when a word with the referee is required, something that often goes underappreciated.
Fernandes’ competitive nature, a quality United fans hope spreads among the squad, will not be an issue for at least one teammate, especially during training sessions.
Joshua Zirkzee is not the first name that springs to mind when talking about Manchester United’s most competitive players.
Part of that is down to the Dutch forward not being a regular starter.
The 24-year-old joined United at the start of the 2024/25 season and has since scored nine goals. He has played in several attacking roles but has not nailed down a consistent spot in the starting XI.
Zirkzee also recently returned from injury and, despite interest from Serie A clubs last month, chose to stay at United.
However, that is not the only sign of his commitment to the Red Devils.
In a Sports Direct TikTok challenge, Mbeumo gave fans a peek inside the United dressing room.
The Cameroonian star named Zirkzee as the most competitive player in training, which might surprise some fans who would have expected Fernandes to get the nod instead.
Since arriving at Old Trafford over the summer, Mbeumo has not been shy about showing off his dance moves.
With Amad Diallo and Matheus Cunha also part of the squad, there has been plenty of dancing to go around in recent weeks.
But when asked who the worst dancer at the club is, Mbeumo was quick to nominate himself.
“I think I can put myself in this,” Mbeumo admitted. “I like to [dance] but I’m not really good.”
