There is a lot of buzz going around about the arrival of Luka Vuskovic at Hotspur Way, and why not, given how he has just put in an absolute shift in his debut game donning the Lilywhites badge? That does lean towards a set plan for the Croatian teenager, given that it increasingly looks like he’s going nowhere in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The centre-back lit up on his Tottenham debut in Spurs first pre-season game of the summer against Reading last weekend, where he recorded a goal and an assist, but the signs of his high potential were already there before that performance that Thomas Frank wanted him to stay put at N17.
And now we have the clear indication of the Lilywhites plans with him for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign with Hamburg pulling out of the race to secure his services…
A recent report by Hamburger Morgenpost claims that the Bundesliga side have given up on trying to sign Vuskovic on loan after learning that the North Londoners have no plans to let him leave, and this comes despite the defender’s brother (who plays at Hamburg) admitting that Luka would’ve loved the move. The report goes on to claim that the German club saw their chances as “already slim”, but now they have started considering alternatives, which include Southampton’s Armel Bella-Kotchap.
While many would argue that the chiefs at Hotspur Way would have changed their minds about the teenager following his performance against Reading, it is said that Frank had already made up his mind before Vuskovic stole the show last weekend.
And the Lilywhites want to develop the starlet around Romero and Van de Ven, and to do so, making sure that he is regularly training with the senior figures in the roster is important.
The 18-year-old described his first few weeks at the Premier League heavyweights as “perfect”, and judging by how he played last weekend, it does look like Vuskovic is all ready to compete at N17.
Keeping him is big; it shows that Tottenham are already looking at Vuskovic as part of the first-team picture at Hotspur Way, and they want to develop him as a consistent presence at the club. And given that he is only eighteen and for Frank to put in that trust, that already shows volumes about his potential.
