Bundesliga star shows support for George Floyd during match

The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis has sparked outrage across the United States, and now support for the 46-year-old Floyd is being shown overseas — particularly in Germany.

American-born Bundesliga star Weston McKennie showed his support for the Floyd family by wearing a "Justice for George" armband during Schalke's match with Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Floyd, an African-American man, died Monday after being restrained by white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for alleged forgery.

Chauvin put immense pressure on Floyd's neck with his knee as he laid on the ground fighting for his life. A witness' video surfaced showing Floyd begging for his life and telling Chauvin he couldn't breathe.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Chauvin was arrested Friday and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

An autopsy conducted on Floyd determined that being restrained, potential intoxicants in his body and underlying health issues likely contributed to his death, according to reports. The autopsy conducted did not conclude that strangulation was a cause of death.
