Tottenham Hotspur have managed to do the unthinkable and reach the promised land on Wednesday night. The Lilywhites ended a 17-year long wait for a major trophy after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final. Ange Postecoglou’s men showed the hunger to get over the line and deliver success after enduring a disastrous domestic campaign.
Spurs have now managed to secure Champions League football as well for next season. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites would receive a huge influx of money if they came out victorious against United. Now, it is safe to say that Tottenham would earn millions that could change the trajectory of the club and help them bring in quality players in the summer.
Ange Postecoglou delivered on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season at a club as well. The Australian is walking on a tight rope at N17, but it is fair to say that he has given the perfect momentum to start a new era at the club and close the gap on Tottenham’s rivals next season.
Tottenham have the chance of making some solid moves in the summer after achieving Champions League football for next season. The Lilywhites should now focus on gaining momentum and continue to show the hunger to win more trophies in the near future. Winning the Europa League would also prove to be a good springboard to kickstart a new era at Hotspur Way.
However, Rio Ferdinand has urged Spurs to build on Europa League glory after a historic win. Speaking to TNT Sports, Ferdinand said,
“They’ve been the butt of many jokes from other teams about how they can’t win a trophy. But they’ve proved today, they’ve shut a lot of people up. And that argument in the pubs and in front rooms all around the country will have to be stopped now, because they’ve proved that they’ve got that monkey off that back now, and they can hopefully build on this.”
Rio Ferdinand suggested that Tottenham proved their critics wrong in the best way possible after the Europa League win. The ex-England international also suggested that Spurs will no longer be a ‘banter club’ after managing to exceed all expectations and win a European trophy this season. Ferdinand then urged the Lilywhites to build on this achievement and not get complacent heading into next season.
But first, Daniel Levy has a massive task of addressing the managerial situation at Hotspur Way. The Spurs chairman has a big decision to make regarding Ange Postecoglou’s future. Big Ange has done everything right in terms of ending the trophy drought and attaining Champions League football for next season. So, fans will hope that Levy makes the right call so that Tottenham can start planning for next season.
