Canadian international wingback Tajon Buchanan well and truly announced himself at Inter Milan with his first goal for the club against Frosinone.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the 25-year-old’s curling effort for the Nerazzurri’s third goal on the evening.

Buchanan joined Inter in January. And there were real expectations on the Canadian international’s shoulders.

Buchanan had been a long-term target for the Nerazzurri, particularly after he had impressed the club with his performances at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Inter signed the 25-year-old, seemingly, to bolster the depth on the right flank.

With Juan Cuadrado having missed almost four months recovering from surgery, and Denzel Dumfries’s future uncertain, Inter took Janury as an opportunity to bring Buchanan in.

But so far, the right flank is not where Buchanan has played. Rather, the Canadian has featured exclusively at left-wingback.

It is still too early to say whether the left flank is where Buchanan will play for Inter going forward.

The Canadian has shown plenty of versatility. He can play on either flank, in midfield, and in both attacking and more defensive roles.

But Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has deployed Buchanan from the left to date.

The former Club Brugge man gave a big clue as to why that’s been the case yesterday evening.

In his previous appearances, Buchanan has shown how useful his dribbling ability with his right foot can be when he plays on the left.

The Canadian has yet to start a match. But he has made a real impact in moments in terms of his technical ability and pace.

And yesterday, Buchanan proved that he can be decisive.

Rather than going wide and putting a cross in, the 25-year-old was able to drive directly into the box.

And from this position, Buchanan lined up a curling effort into the top corner.

This was a clear sign of what the Canadian can offer Inter going forward – and the club will hope that it proves to just be the beginning.
