Canada is one of the host nations for the 2026 World Cup and has already played a match earlier this year in a friendly match against Guatemala.
Canada defeated Guatemala 1-0 with a goal from Jacen Russel-Rowe. The Canadian team against Guatemala included many young players, and the majority of the squad plays in the MLS.
For the match against Iceland today, Canada head coach Jesse Marsch has called up star players like Jonathan David, Ismael Kone, and Tajon Buchanan.
Iceland did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but they have recently played against another World Cup host last month. Iceland faced Mexico last month in Queretaro, Mexico, and lost 4-0.
