Fabio Capello disagrees with Luis Enrique on benching Kylian Mbappé at PSG and reveals he ignored Real Madrid orders to drop David Beckham. ‘They told me not to play him.’

It is now confirmed that Mbappé will leave Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent at the end of the season and everyone is well aware that his destination will be Real Madrid.

With that in mind, Luis Enrique has started dropping the star striker in Ligue 1 matches, warning they must “get used to” life without the France international.

Speaking in his role as a pundit on Sky Sport Italia this evening, former Real Madrid coach Capello revealed he had faced a similar situation when Beckham refused to sign a new contract at the Bernabeu.

“I disagree with Luis Enrique. I would always use Mbappé, because even at the 95th minute he can invent something, and I always want those players in my team,” Capello told Sky Sport Italia.

“I did it with Beckham, the club told me don’t play him, but after 10 days of training I said no, I’ll play him. If I win, I can stay, if I don’t, then you can get rid of me. I won and they got rid of me anyway!”

This was in the 2006-07 season when Beckham was letting his contract run down to then join the LA Galaxy as a free agent.

It was also Capello’s second stint in charge of Real Madrid and he won LaLiga that season, but was still let go.

He had already lifted the trophy for the Merengues in 1996-97.
