Carlos Augusto attracts Manchester United enquiry

Carlos Augusto has emerged as another player on Manchester United’s radar as the club continue working across several areas of Michael Carrick’s squad.

Midfield has been the main priority throughout the summer, with United already completing the signings of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

However, the club are still working on the arrival of a third midfielder as they look to complete a major rebuild following Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s injury.

United have also been assessing their options at left-back.

On 22 May 2026, CentreDevils exclusively revealed that Manchester United had made contact over a possible move for Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall.

Luke Shaw is now 31, while Patrick Dorgu has often appeared more comfortable operating further forward, meaning another long-term option on the left side could still be required.

A fresh report has now revealed that United explored another versatile target earlier this year.

Speaking on The United Stand’s YouTube channel, transfer journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Manchester United made an enquiry about Inter Milan player Carlos Augusto in late April.

The 27-year-old is capable of playing as a traditional left-back, a wing-back, or in midfield, giving him the type of versatility that could appeal to Carrick.

Carlos Augusto joined Inter from Monza and has gained experience competing at the highest level in Serie A and European football.

At this stage, there is no indication that United progressed beyond the initial enquiry or entered formal negotiations with Inter.

The contact nevertheless shows that the club have been examining several possible solutions on the left side rather than focusing entirely on one target.

With United already investing heavily in midfield, any further move may depend on departures and the financial demands involved.

Augusto’s ability to cover two areas could make him an attractive option, although it remains unclear whether Manchester United will return with a formal approach before the summer transfer window closes.
