Carlos Baleba has been at the top of Manchester United’s shortlist since the summer as The Red Devils look to recruit a new midfielder in 2026.
Whilst Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson have also joined Baleba on the list of targets, the Cameroon international was close t0 joining The Red Devils before the season began.
Terms had reportedly been agreed for the move, with Bryan Mbeumo being like an older brother to Baleba at the Cameroon camp, only further encouraging a move.
However, with Brighton wanting £120 million for the midfielder, United couldn’t commit to the transfer, having already spent £200 million on a new attacking line.
Since then, as mentioned, Anderson and Wharton are also in strong contention to move to Old Trafford, with Bayern Munich now interested in signing Baleba.
It’s understood that the German giants see Carlos Baleba as a potential replacement for Leon Goretzka who’s currently a top target for Napoli for next summer.
However, United reportedly don’t have to worry, as Sky Sports has revealed that Carlos Baleba is still firmly set on a move to Old Trafford.
The ball now appears to be firmly in United’s hands, as Elliot Anderson is understood to now be United’s main focus.
That said, with over half of the season still to go, with United not expected to sign a major midfielder until the summer, Baleba still has plenty of time to show why he should be the one The Red Devils move for.
Last season, Baleba was a key part of Brighton’s side, lighting up the pitch for the Seagulls, making 40 appearances, grabbing four goals and two assists.
However, after the links to United emerged and the potential transfer collapsed, the Cameroon international has struggled to establish himself so far this season.
Despite playing every game so far this season, the 21-year-old has only averaged at 55 minutes per game during this campaign as opposed to his 79 minutes per game last year.
As such, this drop in performance may have not only impacted United’s determined interest in the midfielder but also how much Brighton could command for him next summer.
