Carlos Baleba is now on the verge of becoming a Manchester United player after the club reached an agreement with Brighton and Hove Albion for the midfielder.

United have spent much of the summer rebuilding Michael Carrick’s midfield, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans already brought to Old Trafford before the club returned for their long-term target.

Baleba has been on United’s radar for more than a year and the 22-year-old now looks set to become the latest addition after a breakthrough in negotiations on Friday.

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Baleba, with the overall package understood to be worth £65million plus £5million in add-ons and a sell-on clause.

The Cameroon international has also verbally agreed personal terms on a five-year contract, with an option for a further season.

Attention has now turned towards completing the final formalities of the transfer.

Carlos Baleba set for Manchester United medical

According to The Athletic, Baleba is due to undergo his Manchester United medical on Saturday after the agreement between the two clubs was struck.

That means the midfielder could be completing the final stages of his move on the same day United begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign.

Carrick’s side travel to the MKM Stadium to face Hull City on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 BST.

The fixture will therefore take place while United are simultaneously working to finalise one of their biggest deals of the summer.

Baleba will not be available for the opener, but completing his medical without issue would move the transfer significantly closer to an official announcement.

The midfielder is currently recovering from an ankle ligament problem sustained during pre-season, although the injury is not expected to keep him sidelined for a lengthy period.

Once available, Baleba is expected to compete for a place alongside the likes of Tielemans, Santos and Kobbie Mainoo in Carrick’s new-look midfield.

After more than a year of interest and repeated negotiations with Brighton, United are now just a few formal steps away from finally welcoming Baleba to Old Trafford.
