Carlos Tevez is one of those players who many who have graced football have an enthralling story about.
The Argentinian played 89 times for Manchester United in an entertaining stint between 2007 and 2009 before heading to rivals Manchester City.
In one of the most controversial transfers of all time, Tevez made the inner-city switch amid frustrations over his game time at Old Trafford.
Under new ownership, which is now in trouble with the Premier League after cheating between 2009 (when Tevez signed) and 2018, Manchester City saw bringing Tevez in as a huge statement of intent, announcing the player on a five-year contract.
It prompted a famous billboard put up by City, featuring a picture of Tevez and the title “WELCOME TO MANCHESTER,” which United reacted furiously to. Sir Alex Ferguson dismissed City as having a “small club mentality” in response to their behaviour, while also making clear that he didn’t see them as an immediate threat to United’s position.
Despite the move nearly 20 years ago, Tevez is now being considered a Manchester United ‘legend’.
The now-42-year-old has been named in the starting lineup for a United legends team in a match out in Jakarta, Indonesia, for a ‘The Rivalry Returns’ featured game.
Tevez is named in the XI alongside the likes of Edwin Van der Sar, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Ryan Giggs and Dimitar Berbatov – some serious names.
The match is against the ‘North London Legends’, a strong Arsenal team featuring Thierry Henry amongst others.
It’s not the first time in recent years that Carlos Tevez has took part in a game post-career. One recent outing includes Soccer Aid, where he played out a MOTM performance at Old Trafford in 2025.
Tevez is rolling back the years once again for Manchester United – though there will be some debate over his ‘legend’ status.
