Casemiro retirement confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti

Casemiro has enjoyed one of the greatest careers of any midfielder in modern football.

The Brazilian came through the ranks at Sao Paulo before establishing himself as a global star.

He later became a key figure at Real Madrid, winning five UEFA Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns.

In 2022, he completed a high-profile move to Manchester United.

The midfielder spent four seasons at Old Trafford and made 160 appearances across all competitions.

During that time, he helped United win both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.

However, his spell at the club came to an end earlier this summer.

Manchester United confirmed Casemiro would be one of six players released following the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.

Although his club career has continued, another chapter has now officially come to an end.

The decision was confirmed by the man currently leading his national team.

Casemiro bows out after major decision

According to The Athletic, Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Casemiro will not play for his country again.

Ancelotti revealed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup marked the end of the international careers of Casemiro, Neymar and Danilo.

Speaking after Brazil’s round-of-16 exit, the Italian explained that a new generation of players will now take over.

He said: “This World Cup brings a generation of very important players to an end.”

Ancelotti added that Brazil’s focus has already shifted towards building a squad capable of competing at the 2028 Copa America.

Casemiro leaves the international stage after earning 91 caps and scoring 10 goals for Brazil.

He represented the country at three FIFA World Cups and four Copa America tournaments.

His biggest international success came in 2019, where Brazil lifted the Copa America on home soil.

Following his Manchester United exit, Casemiro joined Inter Miami as a free agent.

The 34-year-old has already made his debut for the MLS club and will now focus entirely on extending his club career.

While his international journey has now ended, Casemiro leaves behind a remarkable legacy as one of Brazil’s finest midfielders of the modern era.
