Celta Vigo coach Benitez confronted Getafe players: You're going to destroy football like this

Celta Vigo coach Rafa Benitez has confirmed having a pop at Getafe's players at the end of Sunday's 2-2 draw.

Benitez was left frustrated by Jose Bordalas' tactics and at the final whistle took aim at several of Getafe's players.

"You're going to destroy football like this. It's impossible," snapped Benitez, before turning on the gathered match officials, "You ruin football like this, you ruin it, you ruin it."

In response, Getafe striker Jaime Mata said: "Is it our fault?"

Benitez replied, "When you play like that it is your fault!"

Mata then said: "But this is normal, you can go home with a point."

Later at this media conference, Benitez confirmed the exchange: "I was going to make a comment that we are not going to improve football like this and I have come across some very striking comments that came from within. It surprises you because I come from a football background where these things do not happen."
