Yesterday provided us with another satisfying and positive pre-season result when he thumped top five EPL side Newcastle United 4-0 in our one and only pre-season game at Celtic Park…

Granted it was just a friendly, and we are a week or so ahead of the Magpies in terms of fitness and preparation, but we took full advantage of that to give us yet more confidence heading into the new campaign.

Lots of positives for Brendan Rodgers

Lots of positives were to be had with the likes of new signing Hayato Inamura shining yet again, and he was of course replaced by retuning hero Kieran Tierney in the second half much to the delight of the home support. KT was immediately back to his brilliant old self in the Hoops and looked amazing down that left flank, claiming an assist for Laim Scales’ goal which was Celtic’s fourth of the afternoon.

God Bless Nick Pope

Arne Engels started the scoring from the spot, before Johnny Kenny grabbed a confidence boosting goal on the stroke of half-time – god bless Nick Pope -with Yang and Liam Scales rounding off the scoring in the second half as the hoops lifted the Adidas trophy.

The Celtic players yet again displayed that cohesion and creativity that served them so well in the midweek win over Portuguese Champions Sporting Lisbon in the Estadio Algarve. Celtic could of course play Sporting and/or Newcastle United in the Champions League this season, but while their places are guaranteed Celtic have a play-off tight-rope to walk before securing our own place in the group stages.

No point moaning about it, just get the two games won and won well, Celtic.

Celtic silence sectarian chanting from Toon Army

Ten thousand or so of the Toon Army made the trip north, and many were spotted beforehand having a few refreshments in several theRangers watering holes which may explain their vile sectarian songbook, which thankfully didn’t last too long as Celtic certainly got them to put a sock in it but skelping a side who have real ambitions for the 2025/26 season in English and European football.

So it came as no surprise that a majority of their supporters indulged in some disgraceful chanting throughout the match, so it was even more satisfying for Celtic to send them homewards to think again.

Well done Celtic.
