Celtic possess significant edge over title rivals – Kieran Tierney

The defender – who rejoined his boyhood club side last summer following six years at Arsenal – collected eight domestic trophies during his first spell at the Hoops, including four consecutive league championships between 2016 and 2019.

Now regarded as one of the dressing room’s leaders, Tierney understands the benefit that he and several seasoned teammates bring to the squad compared to less experienced rivals who do not have winners like Callum McGregor or James Forrest.

Speaking via Celtic’s official YouTube channel, Tierney said: “Experience of a title run is a massive thing. We’ve got a captain, Cal, who’s won so many trophies, James Forrest and other boys who have been there in the past as well, so it’s amazing to have guys like that in the changing room.”

“Even the manager himself, who’s been involved. It’s brilliant for us, and I hope it helps.”

Speaking about being fully immersed in the ongoing title race between four teams, Tierney went on to say: “It’s probably exciting if you are watching it from the outside, and it’s probably something that’s not been there for a while.”

“It’s massive, but regardless of the situation, every week the game matters for Celtic. It’s not new to us. Maybe the situation is, with three or four teams going for it, but the pressure of playing for Celtic is not new to us. But we are focusing on ourselves, not the teams around us.”

“You can’t just rely on resilience and character. We need to show we can play as well.”
