Championship giants make their move to land Liverpool hero

As reported by Liverpool Echo, Leeds United have reached out to Liverpool ahead of a potential move for their Irish goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.

The 26-year-old Liverpool academy graduate has had to return to the bench again after Alisson Becker’s return, having once again proved himself to be an able deputy when the Brazilian was sidelined through injury.

Kelleher’s age profile and his performances between the sticks for Liverpool have made him stick out as a player ready for a first-choice role, for which a move looks crucial given both Alisson Becker’s performances and Giorgi Mamardashvili’s arrival next season.

The Republic of Ireland international is contracted with the Reds till June 2026. He has kept 21 clean sheets for Liverpool in 60 senior appearances across all competitions.

Next summer, Liverpool may try to sell Alisson or keep him on for another year while bedding Mamardashvili in. Either way, they have made it clear to Kelleher that he does not have a sure-shot chance of becoming their first-choice keeper, unless injuries force their hand.

Keller is 26 and has proved himself to be a more-than-able operator at the top level. A move would not only help him career-wise, it would also help Liverpool register a pure profit on their books, which would further help them in their Profit and Sustainability Rules targets and accordingly plan ahead. Liverpool and Kelleher parting ways would suit all parties.
