Leroy Rosenior has since been appointed as Maresca’s replacement, with two wins from two so far in all competitions.
He will be hoping for a win tonight against Cypriot side Pafos in the UEFA Champions League group stage, as they welcome back former defender David Luiz.
They will be welcomed by some news that affects the long term future of the club.
The Athletic have reported that Chelsea are close to a deal for Sheffield Wednesday left-back Yisa Alao.
Manchester United were in talks for Alao, but it seems that Chelsea have won the race for the 17-year old’s signature
The fee is said to be in the region of £1 million after add-ons.
Alao made his senior debut for Wednesday in an EFL Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers back in August, going on to make four further appearances for the Sheffield side.
Liverpool were are also said to be interested in the services of Alao, but the future seems to be in South London for the youngster.
For Chelsea, Yisa Alao would be another youngster to add to their squad, something the club has been used to this season.
Chelsea have fielded the youngest starting 11 in the Premier League this season, with an average age of 23.4 during their Matchday 19 clash against AFC Bournemouth.
In fact, of the 10 youngest starting lineups fielded by Premier League this season, Chelsea have boasted six of them.
