The story around Emanuel Emegha is only getting more interesting.

The striker was playing for Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, and after playing a major role in the French side’s success last season, became a target for a number of major teams this summer.

Chelsea didn’t want to see him go elsewhere, so they agreed a deal to sign him next summer. That was announced last week, and the Dutch international was pictured at Cobham holding a blue shirt.

Strasbourg fans unhappy about striker’s mid-season move

That did not go down well in Alsace, where Emegha is Strasbourg captain. The club’s ultras, already unhappy about being bought by Chelsea owners BlueCo, protested about how he had made the move and demanded he “return his armband” in a banner held up in their win on Sunday.

At best, it’s going to be a very uncomfortable season for Emegha. All parties much be regretting making the deal public now.

There is a fear that things could get really bad, and speaking on the Men in Blazers show this morning, Fabrizio Romano revealed that there is already a plan in motion to potentially change the plan entirely. He says that Chelsea are now considering bringing Emegha’s move forward to January.

“They’re very happy with the player and his development, and feel he can be a very important part of the project,” Romano said.

Chelsea consider bringing forward Emegha move

As well as cutting short any potential unpleasantness in France, the idea is that Liam Delap’s injury has affected the club’s plans. But even in the worst case scenario Delap should be fit to play again by the start of January, which would be the earliest that Emegha could play.

Chelsea have already recalled Marc Guiu to cover for Delap, and the Spaniard can’t go on loan again having played for two clubs this season.
