Chelsea explore short-term option: Source reignites Ivan Toney to Chelsea story

Now this is a story of the ages, Ivan Toney to Chelsea being sparked back up by a source? What’s going on here then?

You can go all the way back to September 2023 and find a story about Chelsea being confident of landing striker Ivan Toney, back when he was playing for Brentford.

Of course, nothing came of that but it was clear that Chelsea’s interest in Toney was there and has always been legit.

There was even rumours and links between Chelsea and Toney in August 2024. But Toney ended up heading out to Saudi to earn some big wages there instead, and it didn’t look like Chelsea ever made an official offer to sign him.

But here we are now approaching the winter transfer window of 2025 and Chelsea are being linked with Toney once again.

Short-term fix?

CaughtOffside have claimed that they have spoken to ‘sources close to agents in the industry’ and have some info on Toney’s future as a result.

Chelsea are apparently exploring short-term options but are wary of entering a complex negotiation for a player settled in Saudi Arabia.

The report also says that they don’t think any move for Toney will happen in January due to reasons such as the player being happy and Al-Hilal not wanting to let him go. Also doubts from the interested clubs.

Maybe a World Cup shot might convince him?

Perhaps a chance to get back into the England squad for the World Cup in the summer might convince Toney to come and do half a season back in the Premier League?

The man is still scoring goals and is in good form, but I doubt he’ll be seriously considered whilst playing in Saudi, is my opinion at least.
