The surprise news yesterday at Chelsea was to do with a loan recall – the third of this January already.
Cesare Casadei had to be very patient at Leicester, and he was finally getting into gear and earning some starts for the Championship table toppers – so it’s a shock to see him brought back to Chelsea.
After signing for £12.6m in the summer of 2022, Casadei had 6 months adapting in our youth team before going to Reading a year ago. He has made 25 appearances already this season for the Foxes, and bringing him back is a curveball.
The Daily Mail’s piece on the move says that the midfielder is “will hope to use his experiences [at Leicester] to forge a path in Pochettino’s senior team.”
There really isn’t any room for him – there’s Moises Caicedo, Carney Chukwuemeka, Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu all battling for 3 spots. Yes the latter two are injured, but they’re expected back soon.
Casadei is going to go from playing regularly at Leicester to rotting on our bench – unless this move is a precursor to a Conor Gallagher sale, a concept which will have a lot of Chelsea fans sweating until the window closes at the end of this month.
