Chelsea HC Graham Potter reveals he and his family have received death threats

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter has touched upon matters more serious than the club's Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday.

Per Sky Sports and James Olley of ESPN, Potter revealed on Friday that he and his family have received death threats related to Chelsea's disappointing season. Chelsea enter the weekend 10th in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday's London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"As much as I've had support, I've had some not very nice emails that have come through that want me to die and want my kids to die, so obviously that's not pleasant to receive," Potter said during his Friday news conference.

The 47-year-old was only appointed Chelsea head coach this past September but has become an easy target for supporters of a club that's won just two of its last 14 games across all competitions.

Manchester City bounced Chelsea from the Carabao Cup back in November and then knocked the Blues out of the FA Cup last month. More recently, Chelsea lost 1-0 at Borussia Dortmund in a UEFA Champions League round-of-16 first leg on Feb. 15. The second leg will occur at Stamford Bridge on March 7.

"You just have to put it aside, and thankfully it's an isolated incident and it could come from anywhere," Potter told Sky Sports' Geoff Shreeves about the threats. "It's just one of those things."

Potter added that the threats are "not pleasant for the family." According to Olley, Chelsea confirmed the club has reached out to the proper authorities regarding the messages.

"Of course, there's a line, but I wouldn't be the first person in life where the line's been crossed, and maybe in this instance it has been crossed," Potter told Shreeves.

After Sunday's clash, Chelsea will host Leeds United (19th in the league table) on March 4.
