Chelsea, despite some injuries, have begun the 2025/26 season positively. There are still inconsistencies on the pitch, but going into the November international break, the West London Club sits third in the Premier League. Former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit has spoken to Video Gamer about the importance of Enzo Maresca getting the time he needs to balance the needs of the board with the needs of his players.

Enzo Maresca Looks to Drive Chelsea to Success

Ruud Gullit Says Enzo Maresca Needs Time to Find Balance

Looking at Chelsea’s start to the 2025/26 season is a complex one. Injuries have clearly impacted the squad. Some of their business in the summer transfer window was inspired, while other signings left fans scratching their heads.

The squad is full of talent, but they lack experience, and this has shone through this season, with the discipline of Chelsea’s players rightly criticised, following a spate of recent red cards. Maresca’s starting lineups and in-game decisions have also been criticised.

Ruud Gullit Highlights Challenges Facing Enzo Maresca at Chelsea

The Chelsea job has carried a level of pressure unlike other clubs for many years, even pre-Roman Abramovich. One of Chelsea’s most revered signings pre-Abramovich was Ruud Gullit, who eventually went on to manage the club and guide them to a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the 1997 FA Cup final at Wembley.

When speaking to Video Gamer, Gullit urged BlueCo to give Maresca the time he needs:

I think that people underestimate Maresca a little bit. I don’t know why. I think he needs to be given time. There’s a lot going on. Does he buy these players or is it someone else who buys these players? Then he has to cope with the situation?

“And that’s a huge thing. So many players. And to keep them all happy. So therefore we have to give him a little bit of time in order to figure out how he has to deal with the philosophy of the new owners.”
