This is a Chelsea predicted lineup for their third consecutive London derby in a row. After dealing with neighbours to the east and south, they now take on their fellow SW6 residents, Fulham. A dominant 5-1 win over West Ham seemed to shake off the rust from the opening weekend, gearing us up for an interesting clash this time around.
Robert Sanchez has been the starting goalkeeper so far this season. Malo Gusto and Reece James have both played on the right, Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah, and Josh Acheampong have played in the centre, in a pairing. Marc Cucurella is the first-choice left-back and will play if fit.
Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have been the defensive midfield pivot so far. Estevao, Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens are the main options in attacking midfield. Pedro has also played as the striker, where Liam Delap got the nod last time out.
Enzo Maresca has continued to use his fluid 4-2-3-1 system. This changes when in-possession to a different set up, most often a 3-2-4-1 or something similar. The changes come in who moves where when in possession, someone like Gusto allows the winger to tuck in and occupy half space while James tends to become a third defender and pushes the right winger wider to stretch the field.
The Blues are on a pretty insane run, they’ve won 17 of their last 20 matches, losing just two where they went down to ten men and drawing once. The tie with Crystal Palace slightly took the wind out of fans’ sails but it shouldn’t distract from the fact that Maresca has made them very difficult to beat this year.
Dominant wins over Paris Saint-Germain, West Ham, Benfica, Real Betis, and others should live long in the memory, with the focus being on those positives as opposed to one sluggish match against the Eagles. The side have been capable of controlling games while looking increasingly formidable offensively. If they can continue to improve defensively, they will make a charge towards the top of the table based on their current form.
The manager provided an update on three of the short-term absentees. Palmer, Romeo Lavia, and Benoit Badiashile will all miss this one. They join long-term injury Levi Colwill and the suspended Mykhailo Mudryk on the sidelines.
There’s sure to be an alteration from the manager, one such thing could be prioritising pace to take advantage of The Cottagers and their focus on attacking full-backs. Wesley Fofana is back in contention but may be left on the bench and eased into starts after the international break.
