Chelsea have not been busy in the January transfer window yet, but there are signs they are beginning to move on several targets.
They have been working on a deal for Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, although fans seem split on whether he is the right fit.
Supporters have often said they want the club to bring in more experience to help strengthen Liam Rosenior’s squad, but a move like Jacquet fits more with what the current ownership is looking for.
Chelsea are also watching international tournaments at youth level, trying to identify future stars before other clubs catch on.
One player who did stand out at the African Cup of Nations was Ivory Coast midfielder Christ Inao Oulai, who impressed at just 19 years old.
Africa Foot has reported that the Blues have put forward an offer in the region of £34m for the midfielder.
The publication states Trabzonspor would be open to parting ways with Oulai if a club meets their asking price, which is believed to be around £44m.
Still only 19, Oulai has already made 10 appearances for Trabzonspor this season, contributing two goals and three assists from midfield.
Oulai joined Trabzonspor from Bastia in Ligue 2 and has since become a regular fixture for the Ivory Coast national team.
He began the tournament on the bench, but ended up playing almost every minute after that, including their quarter-final loss to Egypt.
This move might not be what Chelsea fans are hoping for, especially at the reported fee. Many would prefer that money go towards a more established player who can make an immediate difference in Rosenior’s squad.
