Chelsea, along with several other Premier League clubs, has reportedly continued to monitor Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.
The Chelsea Chronicle reported in August that the Blues have had a strong interest in Rogers for some time now.
However, Chelsea are not the only club interested. Liverpool are also thought to be keeping an eye on the attacking midfielder.
Enzo Maresca was short of options in the No.10 role against Nottingham Forest. Even without Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea came away with a comfortable 3-0 win.
Liverpool are also interested in signing Rogers next year and are keeping a close watch on his situation at Villa Park, according to CaughtOffside.
Even so, Chelsea appear to be ahead of the pack. The same report claims that sources close to the player see the Blues as favourites to land his signature.
If Chelsea were to bring in Rogers or another attacking midfielder, it would likely put an end to any plans they had of signing Facundo Buonanotte on a permanent deal.
Buonanotte was brought in by Chelsea on loan from Brighton during the summer, adding depth behind Cole Palmer in that creative role.
Buonanotte has performed well against Forest before, but he was left out of the starting line-up for that 3-0 victory at City Ground.
Rogers was excellent for Villa last season and could still end up having a very good campaign for them this term.
However, the Englishman is not at his best right now, failing to score a goal in his first seven Premier League matches.
Rogers has at least managed to register two assists, but Villa supporters would have expected a bit more than that from one of their star players.
It is a long season, though, and the England international has enough quality to make a real impact at any moment.
